“Sri Shakyaputhra Scholarships” connects sponsors with students in need of financial support. We believe we must provide children with a robust support system, as they pursue academic excellence that will lead to creating a new generation of ambitious, confident and successful individuals to the nation.
Sponsors from around the world collaborate with us in support of this mission. This allows us to help children living in poverty-stricken areas of Northern province of Sri Lanka with financial support to –
- Complete school education
- Pursue possibly higher education
- Empower to pursue a successful career
- Create a stable and productive environment for themselves.
How you can Support
Select and fund one or multiple scholarship categories at your discretion to sponsor talented students from low-income families throughout their education.
You can sponsor one or more children for a little as £7 (LKR 1500) per month. Alternatively, you can fund full or part of the selected level.

Here are some of the ways your support is used for education within our scholarship program.
- Awarded grants to attend school, college or other higher educational institutes
- Educating parents on how to improve interactions with their children at home and on the importance of education to ensure their children are enrolled in school

Children Sponsored
- Sponsor will undergo a basic background check.
- Sponsor agrees to not to initiate or maintain any contact with the scholar without formal approval.
- Sponsor will provide financial support until end of the agreement or scholarship termination by the Foundation.
As a scholar you must fall into our eligibility criteria and be able to provide documentary evidence before we can consider your application.
In school or university
Be attending or planning to attend a school or university education and be age 25 or younger at the time of application submission.
Low income
You must be from a low income family (families with kidney diseases will be given priority.) You should be able to provide us with a low income certificate.
Good grades
You should have an excellent record of academic achievements. You will provide with two recommendation letters along with your academic transcripts (or student record book).
Residency
Initially, be residing in Northern, North Western or Eastern Provinces (priority will be giving to children from Welioya Divisional Secretariat). In addition we will need your birth certificate too.
Sri Shakyaputhra Foundation may decide to revoke or terminate a scholarship if the scholar meets one or more criteria below.
- Stop attending school or higher education
- Change of financial circumstances
- Inability to maintain an acceptable grade average for three consecutive terms
- Change of residency
- Inability to submit documentation for annual review by 1st December for the next academic year.
- Not be present in person for 3 consecutive months to collect the scholarship amount without advance notice/necessary arrangements.
- Breaking foundation’s scholarship rules such as direct/indirect contact with the sponsor without the formal approval from the foundation.
- If the scholar participates in any illegal or criminal activities or where their character may become questionable.
